Mia Banner

Vice President, Strategic Partnerships

“How we speak to each other shapes what we build together.”

Mia is vice president of strategic partnerships at Coqual. She is also principal at Banner Collab, helping small non-profits and micro-businesses with internal messaging and communications strategies. Starting in 2016, she created the internal communications function at the Open Society Foundations, the global network of funders working to advance democracy, human rights, and civil society. Her prior roles were focused on the intersection of internal communications and technology for internal stakeholders in higher education, big tech, and the private sector.

While she admits to being an editorial nerd, as an enduring advocate for inclusion, Mia believes clarity and kindness are always more important than correctness. Mia is a New Yorker and first-generation American. She practices yoga and outdoor photography, and enjoys interpreting the ever-evolving vocalizations of her senior rescue cat, Hobbes. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Government from Connecticut College and two certifications in change management.
