Laura Schenone

Vice President, Director of Communications and Marketing

Laura works to capture global attention for Coqual’s groundbreaking research and services while also creating communications for Coqual’s many stakeholders. She does this by overseeing strategy, content, branding, marketing, digital communications, and media relations. She loves having the opportunity to use her storytelling skills to raise empathy and understanding for diverse human experiences. Laura is continually inspired by her dedicated colleagues and Coqual’s mission of a more inclusive and equitable world.

Before coming to Coqual, Laura was VP of a communications firm specializing in authors and thought leaders. She also spent many years directing grants and communications for a nonprofit that served at-risk children and youth in New York City. In addition, Laura is a writer whose articles spurred by curiosity about people, life, and food have been in many national outlets. She’s published three nonfiction books, including a history of American women told through the lens of food and cooking that won a James Beard Book Award.

Laura holds a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Rutgers University and a master’s in creative writing from the City College of New York. In her spare time, she loves to be walking, gardening, reading, or spending time with family and friends.
